To mark the Public Domain Day 2026, we invite you to join on 15 January either in person at the Royal Library of Belgium or online for a full-day event.
Like every year, on the 1st of January, many heritage works entered the Public Domain as their term of copyright protection expired. To celebrate the occasion and draw attention to the barriers that often still stand in the way of opening up these materials we are joning forces with CREATe, Creative Commons, Europeana, Internet Archive Europe, meemoo, Open Nederland, the Royal Library of Belgium, Wikimedia Belgium, and Wikimedia Europe.
The event is aimed at cultural heritage professionals, policymakers, researchers, open knowledge practitioners, and everybody else who cares about the Public Domain.
The event will open with a keynote address and international updates, after which the programme will split into a Belgian and a European track. Following the lunch break, participants from both tracks will reconvene for two joint sessions. Alongside the plenary programme, a number of specialised workshops will be offered, allowing participants to explore in greater depth the work on CommonsDB and Tapestry.
A detailed programme is availale on meemoo’s event page.
