On 5 February, COMMUNIA is co-organising the Conference on the Secondary Publication Right at the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon.
The conference will bring together leading European and international voices to discuss how Secondary Publication Rights (SPRs) can strengthen Open Access and accelerate progress toward Open Science.
The programme opens with high-level perspectives on Open Science policy, featuring keynote contributions on the European vision for Open Science and the global vision of Open Science, connecting recent EU policy developments with the principles set out in the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science.
The conference will continue with the presentation of a proposal for legislative action in Portugal, outlining concrete legal mechanisms to enable and promote secondary publication in Open Access, reflecting efforts from Portuguese civil society and academia.
We will conclude with a round-table discussion, moderated by Teresa Nobre on why Secondary Publication Rights are urgent. The panel will feature experts from academia, libraries, and public institutions to examine why SPRs are increasingly seen as essential to ensuring that publicly relevant research can be widely accessed and reused.
The conference will be held in Portuguese and English.
