Ahead of the summer break, COMMUNIA full members elected a new Administrative Council during the 2025 General Assembly. Paul Keller (Open Future) and Maja Bogataj Jančič (Intellectual Property Institute) were re-elected to their positions and are joined by Maria Drabczyk (Centrum Cyfrowe).
- Paul Keller — Co-founder and Policy Director of Open Future (Netherlands), will continue to serve as President of COMMUNIA. With over two decades of experience as an open policy advocate, Paul has led COMMUNIA’s and Europeana’s advocacy work on the Copyright in the Digital Single Market directive.
- Maja Bogataj Jančič — Founder and Director of the Intellectual Property Institute (Slovenia), will resume her role as Vice-President. She heads a research, training, and consulting institution focused on intellectual property and digital policy.
- Maria Drabczyk — Chair of the Board at Centrum Cyfrowe (Poland), joins the board as a Vice-President. A sociologist and researcher, Maja specialises in the social impact of technology and regulation on culture, education, and science.
As copyright debates intensify in response to the rise of generative AI, COMMUNIA remains committed to its mission to foster, strengthen, and enrich the Public Domain — a commitment underscored by newly elected board member Maria Drabczyk:
In an age where AI is reshaping copyright debates at lightning speed, protecting the Public Domain has never been more vital. It remains the foundation of creativity, access, and cultural continuity — a safeguard ensuring that innovation builds on shared knowledge rather than enclosing it.
We warmly thank Dimitar Zagorski (Wikimedia Europe), who has completed a two-year term on the Council. Dimi played a key role during the set-up phase of COMMUNIA under the Arcadia grant and will remain actively involved as a member.
