On May 12 at 15:00 CEST, we are hosting an online salon on the unfair practices that have become commonplace in licensing negotiations between rightholders and libraries in the public and academic sectors.
During the salon, we will present a newly published report on unfair licensing practices in the library sector. This report is the result of a long and deep discussion with licensing managers in the public and academic sectors and highlights numerous worrying trends that pose far-reaching risks to the ability of libraries to continue to fulfil their public service mission in the digital age. Alongside broader trends, in particular relating to AI uses and the law governing the licenses, the report also includes concrete examples of unfair and legally questionable contract terms found in actual licensing agreements.
In a panel discussion with two experts, we will break down these trends and learn more about licensing managers’ experiences on this issue.
Panel
- Nicola Bieg (German National Library of Science and Technology)
- Dyveke Sijm (ICOLC Coordinating Committee)
- Teresa Nobre (COMMUNIA)
- Moderator: Teresa Hackett (EIFL)
